I remember being in 4th grade and playing in recess with friends from school when I first witnessed a girl from my class getting verbally bullied for dressing like a boy. I never thought of her different than any of us. Mom always taught us to respect everyone equally and to always be kind. She taught us right from wrong and I knew it was wrong of my classmates to pick on her. We quickly became buddies in school. We made a group of friends that year where we felt was a safe circle for all of us. Her name was Tang and she was from Vietnam.
This memory I have from 4th grade with Tang is the reason why I chose The Trevor Project* organization. Xtra & Co believes that everyone should be free to always be themselves, their authentic self. This is why we want to support our LGBTQ community. We will donate 20% of the proceeds we make from the Bloom With Pride Collection to this non-profit organization.
